Menu Modes in Poster: Combined/Separated Products and Dishes
Updated menu combines Products and Dishes in one tab, Menu. Simple managing and duplicate prevention
Combined and Classic menu modes
Poster menu has 2 main entities: Products and Dishes:
- Products are ready-to-use goods sold without the need for cooking, such as bottled water or chocolate bars
- Dishes are meals and drinks prepared on-site from ingredients, like cappuccinos or soups.
Depending on your menu mode, Products, and dishes can be displayed in a single tab Menu → Menu items, or in two tabs Menu → Products and Menu → Dishes.
To switch from Menu → Menu items to Menu → Products and Menu → Dishes. mode contact our support in chat @joinposter.com or email contact@joinposter.com.
Regardless of your menu items or product/dish choices, there are also crucial ingredients and preparations in your Menu tab:
- Ingredients are the basic items used to make food and drinks. Like flour and eggs for baking, or soda and mint for lemonade
- Preparations are combinations of ingredients like dough or ground meat. They are not sold directly as separate items but are used as dish components.
☝️ Before adding dishes, add the ingredients and preparations. Missing ingredients cause discrepancies in your stock deductions.

Sold by weight dishes
If you sell dishes by weight, enable the Sold by Weight feature to set the price per 100 grams. When the waiter enters the weight of the sold dish at the POS, Poster will automatically calculate the total price.
Supplies and dish costs
The supply feature helps you keep tabs on ingredient quantities in stock and their costs. By regularly updating your supplies, you ensure accurate cost tracking, which in turn helps maintain a clear view of your profits.
☝️ Dishes with inaccurate costs are highlighted in yellow and include ingredients with a cost of zero.
Discounts and deleting
Enable Can’t be discounted to keep dishes or products from getting any customer group discounts. Deleted dishes are stored in a Trash Bin for 30 days before their final removal.
