Questions and answers about promotion settings
This article helps you quickly check promotion settings to make sure everything works correctly.
Before launching a promotion, make sure everything is configured properly:
- POS sync. After making changes in the management console, restart the Poster app on the POS.
- Date and time. The date, time, and time zone on the tablet must match the account settings.
- Promotion conditions. Check the promotion period, weekdays, hours, locations, and customer groups the promotion should apply to.
- Test order. Add items included in the promotion conditions, close the receipt, and check how the discount or gift appears in receipts and reports.
Main promotion rules
- One item — one promotion. If multiple promotions apply to the same item, Poster uses the most beneficial option for the customer.
- Promotion vs personal discount. If a receipt contains promotional items, the promotion takes priority. A personal discount applies only to non-promotional items.
- Exceptions. Bonuses and personal discounts do not apply to items from Marketing → Exclusions. If you add these items to promotion conditions, the promotion will still work.
- Fixed price. This is the final price, including modifiers. If modifiers should affect the price, add them to the receipt as separate items or include their cost in the fixed amount.
- Deposit. Deposits can only be written off down to zero. Negative balances are not possible.
If a promotion does not work on the POS:
- Make sure the promotion is saved in the management console and the POS is synced.
- Check that the time zone on the device matches the account settings.
- Verify that all conditions are met: required items, quantity, customer group, promotion period, and location.
-
If an item in the receipt already participates in a promotion and the waiter needs to remove it or reduce the quantity, first unlink the promotion:
- In the open order, tap Promotion in the upper-right corner.
- Disable the promotion.
- Then edit the quantity or remove the item from the receipt. - If you changed the menu or dishes, review active promotions and ensure that items, categories, or exceptions remain relevant.
- If you changed base prices, do not edit an old promotion with a fixed price. Create a new promotion with updated values and disable the old one.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the “Stacking logic” field missing?
This field appears only if you select the Exactly condition for items in the Menu items and categories section.
Why does the promotion apply to only one item from the conditions?
This happens when the At least condition is selected. To apply the promotion to all promotional items in the receipt:
- Change the condition to Exactly.
- In the Stacking logic field, select Multiple times per order.
Alternatively, group promotional items into one category and use that category in the promotion conditions.
Why is the “Auto-applied promotion” field grayed out and inactive?
You can enable it only if you select the Exact condition for items in the Categories and items section.
Why are promotional purchases not accumulating for the guest?
Check the following:
- the customer report contains receipts with items from the promotion conditions;
- the promotion conditions were not changed after the promotion started, including items, categories, or customer groups;
- receipts were created during the promotion period;
- no other promotions were applied to the same items, because one item can participate in only one promotion.
Why do I get the error “A dish with modifiers cannot be a bonus item in a promotion” when editing a dish?
You cannot edit bonus items used in promotions. To make changes:
- delete the promotion where this bonus item is used, or
- end the promotion so it is no longer active.
After that, you can edit the dish.
Use promotions on the POS to offer guests discounts and gifts.
